Applications for the City of Casey's 2024/25 Equipment and Training Grants are now open. Grants of between $100 and $1,000 are available and can be used for either purchasing equipment required to provide services, for training to help support and develop volunteers and group members or to help community groups diversify their programs, ensuring they are inclusive and accessible.
City of Casey Chair of Administrators Noelene Duff PSM encouraged not-for-profit community groups and organisations who deliver community programs and events to apply.
‘In previous years, successful applicants have used the grant for training in first aid, leadership and coaching, and to purchase essential items needed for services or programs such as sporting equipment, audio-visual equipment and cooking equipment,’ Noelene said.
In 2023/24, Council allocated $99,992 to more than 110 not-for community groups and organisations, including:
- 1st Devon Meadow Scout Group — $1,000 for group leader training and camping equipment.
- Berwick and District Agricultural and Horticultural Society Inc — $1,000 for emergency response and warden training for volunteers.
- Casey Senior Chinese Support Group — $700 for commercial rice cookers.
Group Leader of the 1st Devon Meadow Scout Group Sarah Dickenson said any grant is helpful to their group and “they will definitely be putting in (an application) again this financial year.”
Jennie Toyne from Coastal Villages Community Buses Inc. said their service relies on word of mouth and inexpensive advertising to spread the word about what they offer.
‘The $528 grant allowed us to purchase three display banners to place in retail and community spaces to further promote our service. We are very grateful for the assistance,’ Jennie said.
Hallam Community Learning Centre Inc also received a $960 grant for first aid and CPR refresher training for eight volunteers. Centre Manager Tracy Van Vloten said the centre encourages the community to gain first aid “as the knowledge can prove invaluable in case of an emergency with family, work or community.”
