Privacy Policy

1.  Purpose and Intent  

Casey City Council's Privacy Policy explains how the City of Casey will collect, store, use and disclose personal information of individuals. This policy covers personal information, sensitive information and health information stored and used about individuals by the City. Council is committed to full compliance with its obligations under the Privacy and Data Protection Act 2014 and the Health Records Act 2001.

Council believes that the responsible handling of personal information is a key aspect of democratic governance and is strongly committed to protecting an individual's right to privacy.

Accordingly, Council is committed to full compliance with its obligations under the Privacy and Data Protection Act 2014 and the Health Records Act 2001(Vic) (“the Acts").

This Policy explains these principles and how they apply to Councilors, Council officers', contractors, volunteers, and members of Council committees. 

The Policy also explains how Council will collect, store, use and disclose personal information of individuals, how individuals can gain access to their personal information and correct inaccuracies and how an individual may complain about possible breaches of the Acts.

2.  Scope

This Policy applies to all personal information, sensitive information and health information which is collected, stored used and disclosed by an area of Council for legal or secondary purposes, to ensure that when personal or health information is collected, it is stored appropriately and that an individual’s privacy is maintained in accordance with the Acts. 

Council officers, elected Councilors, members of Council committees, legal entities/organisations, volunteers, and contractors engaged by Council are required to adhere to this Policy.
