Gifts, Benefits and Hospitality Policy for Councillors

Purpose and Intent

Council is committed to best practice good governance, good decision making, and public transparency.

There are occasions when Councillors may be offered gifts, benefits or other hospitality in their official
capacity as Councillors.

Whether real or perceived, accepting a gift could be deemed to influence Councillors judgement or decision making and create a conflict of interest.

The Councillor Gifts, Benefits and Hospitality Policy provides a consistent framework for Councillors either accepting or declining gifts and/or hospitality. It provides a reporting procedure for Councillors to  disclose gifts and hospitality that may be offered to them by stakeholders.

This Policy is intended to support Councillors and Council to avoid conflicts of interest, maintain high  levels of integrity and build public trust through disclosure and transparency.
