Report a road or footpath issue

Before you begin

Please first check who looks after the road in question. You may need to contact the Department of Transport and Planning.

Then, view our roads and parks maintenance schedule. There's a chance maintenance is already organised and upcoming.

If required, you can proceed with making a report following the steps below.

Report an issue with a Council road or footpath

Urgent requests

For urgent requests, call us at 9705 5200. After-hours calls will be connected to our paging service.

We will respond to your emergency as soon as possible. The response may be staged, with immediate action taken to address the danger, followed by additional work over the coming days.

Urgent requests are potentially hazardous and can include:

  • oily or slippery road surfaces
  • potholes
  • glass, debris and dumped rubbish
  • damaged or missing signs, marker posts or road reflectors
  • degraded line markings.

Non-urgent requests, including trees and branches

Please use the Snap Send Solve for all non-urgent requests, including issues involving broken trees or branches blocking roads or footpaths.

Non-urgent requests are generally responded to over 10 working days.

Other requests

If there isn't a problem to report, you can still contact us about general road service requests, such as:

  • new footpaths or linking existing footpaths
  • bus stop locations
  • speed humps and other traffic management devices
  • new line marking on sealed roads
  • pedestrian crossings
  • road signs
  • street lights.

Traffic congestion

Traffic congestion is an issue across Melbourne. Through our Transport Advocacy Campaign, we will continue to lobby the State Government to:

  • Commit funding to upgrade our arterial road network.
  • Improve public transport facilities to provide better services to the community and reduce the overall reliance on motor vehicles.
