Registration tags and replacements
Registered pets must always wear their tags to ensure they can be identified if lost. A fine applies if your pet is found without a tag.
Registration tags are for the life of your pet while registered in Casey. We will replace lost or broken tags free of charge, and they can be ordered online.
How pet registration fees support Casey
Pet registration fees help finance the following services:
- On and off-leash pet-friendly parks and facilities
- Animal management staff to:
- attend to nuisance complaints
- investigate dog attacks
- patrol parks/streets
- collect and return stray animals to owners
- Events such as pet expos and discount microchipping days
- Community education, including pet ownership publications and websites
- Domestic animal business audits and ad-hoc inspections
- Managing dangerous and restricted breed dogs
- Research into dog and cat welfare issues
Pet registration checklist
Please consider the following before registering your pet for the first time in Casey:
- If your pet is registered in another council, you can transfer the registration free of charge.
- If your pet is registered in Casey, you must use the renew pet registration form - not the form on this page.
- You do not have more than two cats and two dogs.
- Your cat or dog must be microchipped. You will need to supply evidence.
- Your cat must be desexed. You will need to supply evidence.
- Your dog is not a restricted or banned breed.
- Only adults 18 years old can register a pet.

Fee exemptions and discounts
You must upload evidence to support your request for a discount
- Pensioner
You're entitled to a discount on your pet registration if you hold any of the following concession cards:
- Pensioner Concession Card – issued by Centrelink or the Department of Veterans’ Affairs
- Department of Veterans’ Affairs Gold Card – War Widow (WW)
- Department of Veterans’ Affairs Gold Card – Totally & Permanently Incapacitated (TPI)
- Low-Income Health Care - issued by Centrelink
- Commonwealth Seniors Health Card (CSHC) - issued by Centrelink
- Farm working dog
You may be eligible for a dog registration discount if you are (or work for) a primary producer and your dog is:
- usually kept on rural land
- primarily kept to trained for driving or working stock on a farm.
- Service/guide and assistance dog
Registration for service/guide and assistance dogs is free of charge if you can provide evidence that:
- the owner or client has a disability that requires a service dog
- the dog has completed obedience training by an approved organisation
- the dog is desexed
- the dog is 12 months or older.
- Other discount criteria
- The cat or dog is over ten years old.
- The pet owner is a member of an eligible organisation.
- A registered Domestic Animal Business (DAB) keeps the pet for breeding.
- The dog has undergone obedience training by an approved organisation.

What happens next?
- We will post your pet's tag within 5 - 10 working days.
- You must renew your pet's registration every year on 10 April. A renewal reminder will be sent to you 3-4 weeks before the due date.
