To request a refund when cancelling your pet registration, please fill out and submit one of the following forms.
To qualify for a refund of the remaining portion of your pet registration, you must provide your details and the reason for the cancellation, such as if your pet has passed away. Refund requests will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
When cancelling your pet registration you are not eligible for a refund if you chose to surrender your pet to either the pound or one of our officers.
Refunds for cancelled pet registrations are calculated based on the date of the pet's death and exclude the $4.51 Victorian Animal Levy. You must provide proof of the initial registration payment before a refund can be considered.
- If your animal passes away before 10 June — 100% fee refund.
- If your animal passes away between 10 June and 10 October — a 50% fee will be refunded.
- If your animal passes away after 10 October - No refund is applicable.
- If your dog is a "dangerous, menacing or restricted" breed, you must provide a death certificate before a refund can be issued.
- Refunds for lost animals are not available as it may still return.
Update your microchipping details
Ensure you also notify your microchipping provider of your pet's death. In Victoria, this is usually the Central Animal Records.
