Casey residents set to head to the polls

Next month, eligible Casey residents and ratepayers will have the opportunity to once again vote for new local councillors, who will represent them in governing the City of Casey.

Local council elections are your chance to choose who you want to represent your community on the issues you care about.

Earlier this year, the Minister for Local Government announced a new ward structure for Casey. The increase in the number of Councillors from 11 to 12 is more reflective of our growing population, and the move to single councillor wards, promotes a fair and equitable representation of voters and supports good governance.

The 12 Wards are:

Akoonah Ward - Berwick, Beaconsfield

Casuarina Ward - Narre Warren, Narre Warren South, Cranbourne North

Correa Ward- Cranbourne North, Cranbourne, Cranbourne East, Clyde North

Cranbourne Gardens Ward - Cranbourne West, Cranbourne South, Cranbourne, Junction Village, Botanic Ridge, Devon Meadows, Pearcedale, Cannons Creek, Blind Bight, Warneet

Dillwynia Ward - Berwick, Clyde North

Grevillea Ward - Narre Warren North, Harkaway, Narre Warren, Berwick

Kalora Ward - Lysterfield South, Endeavour Hills, Narre Warren North

Kowan Ward - Narre Warre South, Cranbourne North, Berwick

Quarters Ward - Lyndhurst, Cranbourne West, Cranbourne

River Gum Ward - Hampton Park, Lynbrook

Tooradin Ward - Cranbourne East, Clyde North, Clyde, Tooradin

Waratah Ward - Doveton, Eumemmering, Hallam, Hampton Park

City of Casey Acting Chief Executive Officer Jen Bednar said it’s important to think about who you might vote for in advance.

‘Do your research and make sure you read the candidate statements that will be included in the ballot pack,’ Jen said.

‘The skills and attributes of a successful councillor include being community-driven, a good decision maker, a strategic thinker, a leader, team player and an effective communicator with high ethical integrity.’

Voting in this year’s elections will be via post, with ballot packs to be posted to all enrolled voters from Monday 7 October. Voting will close at 6:00 pm on Friday 25 October.
