The City of Casey is inviting the community to step outside and celebrate the beauty and diversity of our natural environment these April school holidays, with a series of family friendly events across the municipality.
Wilson Botanic Park Berwick will come alive with Nature at Dusk, held on 7, 8 and 9 April from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Families can enjoy live music, nature walks, rock painting, self-guided nature journaling and seek and find turtle scavenger hunt activities.
Visitors can also explore the park’s new nature play cubby house, admire the striking longneck turtle sculpture installation, or simply relax with a picnic, sausage sizzle, coffee or dessert. Bookings are required.
City of Casey Mayor Cr Stefan Koomen said “Nature at Dusk is an opportunity for families to come together and reconnect with Casey’s natural spaces,” Cr Koomen said.
Akoonah Ward Councillor Scott Dowling said “Events like this remind us how important it is to protect and celebrate the incredible landscapes that make Casey such a vibrant place to live and visit,” Cr Dowling said.
The celebrations continue on Thursday 9 April with Wild About Blind Bight, a free family event at the Blind Bight Nature Reserve. Running from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm, the day will include wildlife shows, a snake display and safety presentation, mangrove walk and talks, face painting and roving performers. Visitors can also learn more about composting and waste contamination, and meet local SES members. No bookings are required.
Cranbourne Gardens Ward Councillor Michelle Crowther said “Blind Bight is a special place, and this event is a fantastic opportunity for families to learn something new and enjoy this wonderful part of our coastal region,” Cr Crowther said.
These activities are part of a weeklong celebration of People, Plants, Place, recognising the importance of local natural sites in connecting residents with their community and the environment. As part of the celebrations, Royal Botanic Gardens Cranbourne will also host a 20th birthday weekend from 10 to 12 April.
A schedule of free bus transport will be available throughout the week to support community access to these events and encourage exploration of the City’s natural attractions.
