Two major recreational projects in the City of Casey have received a significant boost thanks to the Federal Government’s Thriving Suburbs Program.
The Doveton Pool in the Park Revitalisation Project will receive $7.4 million towards stages two and three of upgrades, building on the $7.91 million already allocated by Council for stage one.
In addition, the Springleaf Avenue Recreation Reserve in Clyde North will benefit from $9.2 million in Federal funding, supporting the transformation of the site into a multipurpose sport and
recreation facility, as well as a new playground.
Mayor of the City of Casey, Cr Stefan Koomen, expressed his excitement at the announcement, particularly as a long-time resident of Doveton who has passionately advocated for the
revitalisation of the local pool.
“I’m absolutely thrilled to see Doveton Pool in the Park receiving this significant funding. As a Doveton resident myself, I’ve been advocating for years to secure the support this facility
deserves,” Cr Koomen said.
“The Doveton community truly deserves this investment. The pool is more than just an asset—it’s a beloved gathering point for residents, and this funding will ensure that locals and visitors will continue to enjoy high-quality aquatic facilities right in their neighbourhood.
“This investment demonstrates a real commitment to supporting every part of the City of Casey, from our established suburbs like Doveton to our rapidly growing areas. Since joining Council and becoming Mayor, one of my key focuses has been to ensure our community facilities — our assets, the places where we spend time with family and friends — are well maintained and
continue to thrive.
Council is also excited about the development of the Springleaf Active Open Space in Clyde North, one of the City’s fastest-growing areas. With this Federal funding boost, the project will deliver accessible, modern recreation, and leisure facilities, transforming the site into a vibrant recreational hub for local residents.
Key features of the proposed plans for Springleaf Active Open Space include two AFL/cricket ovals, two netball courts, cricket nets, a community pavilion, walking paths, landscaping, public art, and a playground.
“On behalf of the City of Casey, I would like to thank the Federal Government for supporting our community,” Cr Koomen said.
“It’s fantastic to partner with all levels of government to deliver these amazing facilities and
better outcomes for our residents.”
