Local skaters, scooter riders and BMX fans now have a fresh space to enjoy, with the Tooradin Skate Park upgrade complete and already buzzing with action.
This week, City of Casey Mayor Cr Stefan Koomen and Tooradin Ward Cr Jennifer Dizon dropped in to see the finished project and even joined some local kids to test out the new features.
‘It’s fantastic to see the community out here enjoying this space,’ Cr Koomen said.
‘Community feedback really shaped this design, and it’s clear these upgrades mean a lot to local young people who are already carving up the new features.'
The $450,000 upgrade has transformed the existing skate park with exciting new elements, including ramps, stairs, grind rails, plus improved fencing, seating and landscaping to make the area more welcoming for everyone.
This project was guided by community input through the Tooradin Recreation Reserve Master Plan and a dedicated consultation process earlier this year. Residents helped shape the design by voting on skate bowl options and sharing ideas at pop-up sessions and via a survey.
‘A big thank you to everyone who shared their thoughts, your feedback directly influenced what you see here today,’ Cr Dizon said.
‘This is a great example of how working together creates spaces that truly reflect community needs. It’s amazing to see local kids and families enjoying this new skate park just in time for the school holidays.'
The skate park upgrade is just the first stage of a much larger revitalisation of the Tooradin Recreation Reserve, which will include:
- Refurbished football/cricket and netball pavilions with modern change amenities.
- A new community pavilion featuring social spaces, kitchen, public amenities, office and storage.
The total investment for these projects is $3.952 million, proudly delivered by the City of Casey in partnership with the Victorian Government, which contributed $2.35 million towards these much-needed improvements.
‘We’re grateful to the Victorian Government for their support in bringing these upgrades to life,’ Cr Koomen said.
‘Together, we’re creating a reserve that offers something for everyone, from sport to social connection.'
Member for Bass Jordan Crugnale MP said she was thrilled to see the skate park upgrade completed and in action for summer.
‘This is a wonderful partnership with Council to deliver outdoor facilities for young people, families and all ages to enjoy, with more upgrades to come at the Tooradin Recreation Reserve,’ Ms Crugnale said.
