Eumemmerring’s Waratah Reserve lights up!

WR upgrade

The sports lighting upgrade on pitch one at Waratah Reserve in Eumemmerring is now complete.

On Saturday 12 April, City of Casey Mayor Cr Stefan Koomen was joined by Gabrielle Williams MP, Minister for Transport Infrastructure and Public and Active Transport, as well as representatives from Doveton Soccer Club to celebrate not only the completion of the lighting upgrade, but the first football game under lights at Waratah Reserve in 58 years.

As part of the upgrade works, the existing 20-metre pole was reused, and three additional poles were installed, each equipped with two light fittings. Each LED light fitting delivers 259,000 lumens, representing a significant improvement compared to the old 2,000W metal halide lighting fixtures.

“This upgrade is a game-changer for our local sporting community,” Cr Koomen said.

“By reusing existing infrastructure and adding powerful new LED lighting, we’ve not only improved visibility dramatically but also created a safer, more accessible space for players of all ages to train and play.

“It’s fantastic to see our community facilities growing alongside our teams.  This investment means more opportunities, more programs, and more reasons to get out and enjoy the game.”

The lighting upgrade on pitch one is a jointly funded partnership between the City of Casey and the Victorian Government via its Local Sports Infrastructure Fund — Community Sports Lighting stream.
