We’re enhancing the parks and playgrounds that bring us together, the trees that shade our streets and the open spaces we all enjoy.
Our Budget 2025/26 strengthens our commitment to a greener, healthier Casey through investment in our 10-year Greening Casey Plan. This initiative focuses on increasing tree coverage in areas where it will most benefit out community, such as walking and cycling paths, streets near schools, public gardens, car parks and busy activity centres.
This financial year, we're planting approximately 8,200 advanced trees, complemented by thousands of small tube stock plants. These are perfect for boosting biodiversity in large-scale revegetation locations. Our diverse mix of native and exotic species helps create a resilient urban forest that not only supports local ecosystems but also adapts to changing environmental conditions.
Mayor Cr Stefan Koomen said, “Last year, Council planted around 15,000 tube stock plants and this year we’re building on that momentum. We’re delivering on our promise to green Casey, enhancing both liveability and sustainability across the city.”
To support our goal of reaching 15% tree canopy cover, we’re also investing in new software to help us accurately measure and track canopy growth over time to ensure we’re making real progress.
We’re also inviting the community to get involved with large, open community planting days and smaller events which are organised with local schools and organisations.
We are also supporting local Friends and Landcare Groups with plants and training to help them care for local parks and reserves. If you would like to get involved, these welcoming community groups offer hands-on ways to nurture our natural spaces.
From beautifying our green spaces to protecting local flora and fauna, your rates are working to make Casey a place that is connected, innovative and resilient.
