The Casey Biodiversity Assessment identifies and quantifies individual sites of biodiversity value, as well as determining their significance within Casey and the broader region. The information herein may also be used to inform planning processes, policy, and management priorities more broadly.
Landscape
- Extent: 1704 sites covering 5,608 ha, representing 14% of the study area.
- Vegetation Origin: 58% remnant, 42% regeneration/revegetation.
Vegetation Communities and Habitats
- Dominant Ecological Vegetation Class (EVCs): Heathy Woodland (18% of total area), Derived Wetland (17% of sites).
- Other Significant EVCs: Plains Grassy Wetland, Mangrove Shrubland, Coastal Saltmarsh, Estuarine Wetland.
Threatened Species Habitat
- Critical Habitat: 61% of sites identified as critical habitat for threatened species.
- Species Guilds: Waterbird guild most prevalent, followed by aquatic amphibians, freshwater fish, and woodland birds.
Threatened Flora
- Coastal and Estuarine Communities: Over 85% of sites contain critical habitat for at least one threatened flora species.
