Mandatory inspections
Under the Food Act 1984, our Environmental Health Officers can inspect any business that is involved with the handling or sale of food.
We conduct inspections without prior notice to the food business. Inspections can occur at any time during business trading hours. Our inspections focus on a wide range of food safety matters, including:
- cleanliness
- temperature control
- hygiene and food handling practices
- pest control
- maintenance of premises
- waste storage
Inspections during the registration process
We also conduct inspections during the registration process. This is to make sure new food businesses meet the legislative requirements prior to receiving a food premises registration.
