School Precinct Road Safety Framework

Overview

The School Precinct Road Safety Framework Guide and School Road Safety Program Model provide councils with a consistent, practical approach to improving safety and movement around school precincts. They outline core principles, the delivery cycle, and a suite of problem-based modules that can be adapted to local needs.

Councils are encouraged to begin with diagnostic tools to identify specific issues at each school, then select relevant modules and work collaboratively with schools to plan, sequence, and implement actions.

How it works

The delivery phases—implementation, monitoring, adaptation and review—provide a clear structure to help councils stay on track and sustain improvements. Guidance on record-keeping is also included to support reliable administration and ensure continuity across teams.

This resource can be read in full for a comprehensive understanding or consulted as needed for planning or troubleshooting. It is designed as a living resource, enabling councils to refine local practice as they gain experience while working within a shared model informed by evidence and lessons from the Casey Safe Around Schools program.

Funding acknowledgement

This initiative, led by the City of Casey, has been made possible through funding from the Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications, Sport and the Arts via the National Road Safety Action Grant (NRSAG).
