The City of Casey is the proud home of Myuna Farm, a sustainable farm in the heart of Doveton. Myuna Farm has made many changes to the site to reduce their emissions and become an educational hub for environmental outcomes.
Since 2004, Myuna Farm has reduced its energy consumption by 84% and supported improved sustainability outcomes through the following upgrades and initiatives.
- Installing 30kW of solar PV
- Installing a 5kW wind turbine
- Incorporating sustainable building design in the recently renovated animal display centre
- Creating community gardens
- Composting food waste, animal waste, hay and garden clippings
- Installing real-time electricity and water monitoring systems
- Harvesting rainwater and employee water conservation techniques
- Installing an electric vehicle charging station
- Making insulation improvements
- LED lighting upgrades
- Getting an electric train.
Other initiatives include establishing a calendar of community events (all focused on environmental themes) and the expansion of Myuna Farm school education programs to include more detailed sustainability related content.
