Activities
Teachers can design an excursion to meet their curriculum needs! Select four OR five of the following units: All units are delivered to meet the level of students and can be simplified or expanded upon if required.
Farm show (most popular)
- Learn about chickens and other farm birds, including the roles of the Rooster and Hen and where chicks come from, with the opportunity to pat a feathered friend.
- Learn why goats and other mammals make milk, what products can be made with milk and have a go at milking the goat!
Animal nursery (most popular)
Explore the Myuna Farm animal nursery. Experience hands-on contact with a variety of animals such as:
- rabbits
- guinea pigs
- lambs
- goat kids
- lizards
- turtles
Learn about respect towards animals, animal behaviour and life cycles. Discuss the living requirements and needs of various animals.
Train ride to the wetlands (most popular)
- Catch the train to the Myuna Farm wetlands to learn about the unique ecosystem and its fauna and flora.
- Learn about the wetlands as an important habitat for wildlife, including the fruit bats known as Grey-headed flying foxes.
Paddock feed (most popular)
- Walk the feed trail and feed friendly animals by hand such as alpacas, sheep, deer, camel, cattle, goats and kangaroos.
- Observe how animals live in their environment and gain an understanding of their living needs.
Produce Garden
- Pot up a veggie seed to take home and identify the key elements that a plant needs in order to grow.
- Explore the Myuna Farm community gardens and see where food comes from.
- Learn about the benefits of eating different vegetables and fruits and of growing your own produce at home.
Waste (recommended for Grades One and Two)
An interactive and fun activity where students learn about:
- types of waste and where it should go
- how to identify compostable or recyclable waste
- what goes to landfill
Students will explore Myuna Farm’s giant rubbish bin, compost lunch scraps and visit the worm farm, followed by a ‘rubbish sorting game’ complete with a miniature set of kerbside bins
Farm school (recommended for Grades One and Two)
- Learn about the role and importance of farming in food and textile production.
- Be introduced to how farming has evolved over time, focusing on the production of flour from wheat.
- Grind buckwheat into flour and learn how bread is produced in modern factories.
Cost
- Four unit program: $13.20 per person
- Five unit program: $17.00 per person
- Adults are free when there is one adult for every five students. Extra adults: $11.80 each
Groups must be at least 18 students. If less than 18 students attend, you must still pay for all 18 students.
Prices include GST.
Time
Arrive by 10 am for morning tea before commencing activities at 10.20 am.
Each unit runs for approximately 40 minutes with a 30-40 minute lunch break. A timetable will be provided to teachers upon arrival on the day of the excursion.
Finish times:
- 4 Unit programs: finish time of 1.40 pm. Option to exclude lunch break and finish the program earlier is available.
- 5 Unit programs: finish time of 2.20 pm
Maximum group size
For the Foundation to Grade 2 program, we can accommodate a maximum of 5 groups with up to 26 students per group.
