- Late Commencement and Holding Places
Children enrolled in a Council Management Kindergarten program should be aware that places are not automatically held if a child does not start.
If your child is unable to start, you will need to email the Kindergarten Enrolments and Planning team and submit a late commencement request. Your request will then be considered, and you will be notified of the outcome.
To request late commencement, you will need to provide the following:
- Child’s Name
- Parent’s Name
- Kindergarten name
- Reason for late commencement
- Date you want your child to start
If the request is approved, your child's place will be held until the approved date. If your request is declined, your child's place will need to be cancelled.
For further information, refer to the Leadership and Service Management Late Commencement guidelines
- Completing your Child’s Enrolment Record
Families will receive an email with a link to complete an Enrolment Record. This will need to be completed before your child can start at kindergarten. A child’s Enrolment Record provides the kindergarten with detailed information on your child including;
- any medical conditions,
- who is authorised to drop off and pick your child up,
- any additional needs or development concerns and
- other relevant information.
You will also be asked to upload the following documents that are applicable to your child, these include;
- An Immunisation History Statement issued by the Australian Immunisation Register
- Court Orders (if applicable)
- Medical Action plans that have been completed by a doctor for a diagnosed medical condition (if applicable)
- Allergy Management Plans, including Anaphylaxis (if applicable)
- Any supporting documentation relating to your child’s additional need (if applicable)
If you are unable to upload these documents at the time of completing the Enrolment Record, you will need to bring them to the kindergarten on your child’s first day.
- Immunisation
Under the Department of Health’s “No Jab, No Play” all approved and licenced early childhood services must ensure that all children who are enrolled have up to date immunisations for their age. For your child to be able to start at kindergarten you are required to provide an up-to-date Immunisation History Statement.
When is a child considered overdue for a vaccination?
A child is considered overdue for a vaccination if four weeks has passed since the date of the 'next vaccine due' listed on their current immunisation history statement.
Can I show you my child’s health book instead?
No. An Immunisation History Statement from the Australian Immunisation Register is the only form of documentation accepted for enrolling in kindergarten.
Where can I get an Immunisation History Statement?
- You can print a copy of your child’sImmunisation History Statement from your myGov account
- The Express Plus Medicare mobile app
- Contact the Australian Immunisation Register on 1800 653 809
- Visit your local Medicare or Centrelink office.
My child was immunised overseas. Can I get an Immunisation History Statement
Children who were immunised overseas must have their vaccine records assessed by a GP or local council and be offered catch-up vaccinations as required. The GP or local council will then report overseas vaccines to AIR by submitting the AIR Immunisation History form. After this is done you can get an Immunisation History Statement from the Australian Immunisation Register.
The City of Casey provides support to families to update the child’s immunisation. The family can request an update at this link https://www.casey.vic.gov.au/immunisation-catch-up-schedule-request.
What is the Support Period (formerly known as Grace Period)?
Some families are eligible to enrol and commence at the kindergarten under a 'support period'. The support period allows some children to commence when they have not provided evidence of being up to date with their immunisations. To find out if you are eligible go to this link https://www.health.vic.gov.au/immunisation/before-enrolment-no-jab-no-play-requirements or contact your child’s educator at the kindergarten.
