The City of Casey’s CRES process has six steps.
Central Registration and Enrolment Scheme
The Central Registration and Enrolment Scheme (CRES) is run by the City of Casey. It is a single place where families can register their interest in sessional kindergarten.
The purpose of the CRES is to ensure the fair and equitable allocation of kindergarten places in line with Department of Education’s (DE) Priority of Access and the City of Casey’s local criteria.
CRES is built on six principles:

Kindergarten is for children aged 3 and 4 and provides play-based programs to:
- build curiosity
- be creative
- grow in confidence
Through fun and meaningful activities, children build essential skills in:
- communication
- problem-solving
- movement
- emotional wellbeing
Qualified teachers and educators create a safe and caring environment. Every child is encouraged to explore, learn and thrive.
All funded kindergarten programs use the Victorian Early Years Learning and Development Framework. This makes sure the programs are right for each child’s age, needs and interests.
What are the benefits of kindergarten
Research shows that play-based learning helps children grow and succeed. The benefits continue into school and later life. At kindergarten, children take part in many types of play:
