Project update
On 20 September 2022, Council endorsed the temporary closure of an unsealed section of Ballarto Road between South Gippsland Highway and Clyde–Five Ways Road. This decision was made in response to ongoing operational and safety concerns for road users travelling on the unsealed section of Ballarto Road.
The design stage for the construction of two lanes on Ballarto Road has already commenced. However, the design and construction of this road segment has been placed on hold indefinitely due to a lack of drainage infrastructure and an existing main gas line that requires relocation. The relocation of the gas line alone has increased the project cost by at least $10m. The resolution of the drainage infrastructure issue, specifically the drainage outfall, depends on the outcome of the Casey Fields/Devon Meadows Precinct Structure Plan (PSP), which is currently in draft phase and led by the Victorian Planning Authority (VPA).
Unfortunately, a definitive timeframe for the construction and reopening of this section of Ballarto Road to through traffic between South Gippsland Highway and Clyde Fiveways Road is currently unavailable.
