Microchips & desexing

Under the Domestic Animals Act 1994, all cats and dogs must be microchipped before being registered with local council, which is compulsory once the animal reaches three months of age.

Visit the Agriculture Victoria for more information about microchipping.

Desexing your dog

Desexing your dog is recommended. Desexed dogs also receive a discount on their registration fees. Additional benefits for the dog include:

  • reducing disease and health risks
  • reducing the desire to roam and the chance of accidents
  • prevents unwanted pregnancies
  • reducing aggression and the chance of fighting

Visit your vet or the Agriculture Victoria website for more information about dog desexing.

Desexing your cat

Cats must be desexed before they can be registered. Evidence that the cat is desexed (and microchipped) will be required when registering your cat in Casey.

Your cat may be exempt from desexing if you can provide written proof that:

  • the cat is over 10 years old
  • the cat is used for breeding in a registered breeding establishment
  • you're a member of an eligible organisation, and the cat is registered with that organisation
  • a qualified vet confirms that desexing the cat would harm its health.

Visit your vet or the Agriculture Victoria website for more information about cat desexing.

Before registering your cat confirm that your cat is desexed with the form below.
