The City of Casey is proud to boast a public art collection that is progressive, stimulating, and explores a variety of mediums, scales and approaches.
Casey's latest public art commission invited artists to develop a series of three connected works that would encourage visitors and locals to venture across the municipality.
Artists Jonathan Thompson and Mark Cuthberston were selected for this commission, developing a series of works titled The Ovals. The artists state: “the idea behind of these works centre around the oval, the big patch of green where all the action happens, where stars are born, friendships forged, and communities come together.“
The design of each sculptural element has originated from a series of drawings Jonathan, a lover of AFL football, made from each of the three locations. A beautiful series of fluid hand drawn impressions of form and movement, representing and presenting more than just the game but the broader community involvements. A celebration of diversity, human connections and the collective that each of these sites generate and rely on.
