Community Service Organisations (CSO)

Overview

CSOs are not-for-profit organisations that support and assist individuals, families, and groups to maximise potential and enhance community well-being. These organisations are accountable to a governing body and provide psychosocial, physical, educational, financial, and other support services, strengthen community ties, and build healthier and stronger communities.

Council is developing an online platform for CSOs to access practical information from a central source. Over the next 12 months, we will co-design the content with the sector and look forward to sharing this with the broader community sector in mid-2025.

In the meantime, the page has been developed as an interim measure to provide CSOs with information about the City of Casey, including its people, location, and opportunities provided by the Council.

About the City of Casey

The City of Casey is 35 kilometres southeast of Melbourne's central business district. The municipality covers 409 square kilometres from Endeavour Hills down to the southern coastal villages of Western Port Bay.

The City of Casey is Victoria's most populous LGA (Local Government Area). Over the past decade, it has experienced the fourth-greatest population growth of Australian LGAs, behind only Brisbane, Wyndham, and Gold Coast.

Casey is known as both a growth Council and an Interface Council, positioned on the outer ring of Greater Melbourne. While well-known for recent growth and development, Casey also has significant, well-established urban areas and townships, making it a vibrant and diverse city.

When applying for Local, State or Federal Government grants, convincing evidence and localised data are powerful tools for demonstrating need.

CSO Growth and Attraction Framework

The CSO Growth and Attraction Framework sets out a new and dynamic approach to building sector capacity and leading coordinated advocacy efforts to attract funding and specialist services to Casey where they are most needed.

Casey Council adopted the Framework on 18 June 2024.

To learn more, download a copy of the CSO Growth & Attraction Framework.

CSO Funding

Council has a range of grants to assist and support CSOs, including our newly established Community Service Organisations Growth and Attraction Fund.

For more information, read our Grants for the Community section.

CSO Directory

The City of Casey is developing an online CSO Directory for local community service providers to list and promote their services at no cost.

The CSO Directory will make it easier for CSOs to refer Casey residents to appropriate local services and allow the community to search for relevant local support.

To register, Join the CSO Directory at the bottom of this page.

Casey Futures Partnership

The Casey Futures Partnership is an initiative of the CSO Growth and Attraction Framework to provide an effective structure in which CSOs and Council can work together to:

  • Identify sector needs and challenges, as well as service gaps.
  • Undertake solution-focused planning.
  • Support successfully implementing the Growth and Attraction Framework and 3-year strategic action plan.
  • Facilitate collective advocacy to improve health and well-being outcomes for the Casey community.
  • Facilitate networking, collaboration, and information-sharing opportunities.
  • Assist in service mapping to prevent duplication of work.
  • Host quarterly capacity-building forums.

Community food resource directory

The City of Casey's Community Food Resource Directory makes it easier to find affordable and accessible food assistance and relief options during times of need.

Networking and volunteering

There are many opportunities for professionals working or volunteering in the community sector to connect and network. If you have a network, partnership, or Communities of Practice you facilitate in the City of Casey that you would like to promote across other organisations, email CSOPartnerships@casey.vic.gov.au to discuss options on how Council can support.
